Description
Canon in G is mainly addressed to primary and junior high-school String
Ensembles.
Canon in G is an homage to the Pachelbel’s Canon in D. In my teaching career I met
many students greatly motivated by the intrinsic pleasure of playing Pachelbel’s
canon. Unfortunately due to their technical level (e.g. no knowledge of the 3rd
position) they were able to perform only some of the variations. My intent was to
create an equally engaging composition based on the canon form written entirely
in 1st position and in G major. The reason I have chosen G major is because I
consider it amongst the most accessible clefs to violin students.
The composition includes some extras that aim to help the Conductor. It includes
a Viola part that can substitute the 3rd Violin part if need be. Also, the Double
Bass part is suitable for a Cello2 section in case the String Ensemble doesn’t have
any Double basses.
