Description
Influenced by East European music this carol features themes and tropes common in
Eastern European carols. “White blossoms” is an expression commonly referred to in carols
from this region meant to represent snowflakes.
Whilst many Christmas carols depict an atmosphere of warmth and merriment, this carol
purposely starts off in the solitude of nature in the midst of pine trees. After this initial
moment in which we are in awe of nature we proceed towards light and warmth.
From cold and isolation to purpose and hope. I believe the emotions rendered here are
universal themes that go well beyond the leitmotif of a region. They speak of our fears,
doubts, weaknesses and our need to find our way. The hope of Christmas.
